Kidnapped?

Hi. I bet you thought I got kidnapped and taken to Shanghai? Nope! Just got caught up in this funny game called life.

I decided I needed a change, so I high-tailed it to my favorite hair stylist. While she layered and gold-highlighted my light brown tresses, I watched an amazing amount of hair fall to the floor and waited for the result in suspenseful anticipation.

I have to admit I always have a little trepidation when I go to the hairdresser. This is probably due to the fact that when I was fifteen I altered my glamorous down-to-the-waist locks to a Mia Farrow pixie haircut. What a mistake! My “best friend” told me that it made me look like a monkey. And I suffered through a lot of bad hair days until my hair grew out.

Anyway, this time it turned out great! So now my hair is in a fun style and I have the diversity of being able to wear it up or down, with bangs or swept to the side, etc. It also can be scrunched up and the natural wave gives it a lot of body, or I can blow-dry it straight.

Now, you may be thinking, “Wait a minute! This is supposed to be a blog on saving money! ” Yes, you are right. But I did save money. I have been cutting my hair for the last eighteen months. And my hair stylist even told me I have been doing an excellent job of cutting it myself. (She actually was amazed that it was my own work. And that is a win for me, as I have absolutely no training in cutting hair.) So, every now and then it is okay to splurge a little if you are doing well on the saving.

Now my only dilemma is this: Shall I try to maintain the cut myself or have I doomed myself to paying for a haircut every 6 to 8 weeks?

Postscript added a day later: All I have to do is find the right coupon discount codes and I can cost-justify my trips to the hairstylist. See tomorrow’s entry to see some successful savings on things I needed to buy anyway.
